REQUIRED HEALTH TESTS FOR THE WAYNE HOLMES INVITATIONAL SALE

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING HEALTH TESTS REQUIREMENTS CAREFULLY.  NON COMPLIANCE OF THESE BOARD APPROVED REQUIREMENTS COULD ELEMINATE YOUR ANIMAL FROM THE SALE.  PLEASE GIVE THESE HEALTH REQUIREMENTS DIRECTLY TO YOUR VETERINARIAN.  THIS LETTER IS ALSO POSTED ON OUR WEBSITE AT HTTP://JMS.USJERSEY.COM FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE

1. TUBERCULOSIS:  All animals must have a negative Tuberculosis test conducted within 30 days of the sale.  This is a requirement even if you are a Certified Free Herd or from a Certified Free State.  An individual copy of the Tuberculosis chart must be attached to the health chart as there are some states that require this form for entry into their state.
2. BRUCELLOSIS:  JMS highly recommends that all animals be calfhood vaccinates so they can be purchased by breeders from all states.  All animals must have a negative Brucellosis test conducted within 30 days of the sale.  Official calfhood vaccinates under 6 months of age as of sale day do not need to be tested, however, their vaccination tattoo must be legible and listed on the health certificate.
3. BVD-PI (Persistent Infection):  All animals must have a negative Antigen Detection test (ear notch, nucleic acid hybridization, polymerase chain reaction amplification (PCR), viral isolation or Elisa).  Proper documentation of a negative test is required.  This test can take longer than a week to get the results.
4. SHIPPING FEVER BOOSTER:  All animals need to have a Shipping Fever Booster shot (a 9-way shot is recommended) no less than 10 days prior to the sale and not more than 60 days prior to the sale.  The documentation and date of this shot needs to be listed on the health chart.
5. MILKING COWS ONLY:  Each lactating cow must have a negative composite milk culture for Staph aureus and Mycoplasma Species.  A bulk tank sample is acceptable as long as it is negative.  If not, each lactating animal in the sale will need an individual negative test before arriving at the sale.  This test takes approximately 10 days to complete.
6. HEALTH CERTIFICATE:  An individual Interstate Health Certificate is required for each animal.  The health certificate must include the “Permanent” identification for the animal.  Recent USDA regulatory changes list 840 Electronic ID tags or National Uniform Ear Tag System tags (metal clips with state code, nine digit alphanumeric sequence, ex…orange brucellosis calfhood vaccination tag) as approved Permanent ID tag identification.  Farm tags, tattoos or registration numbers are no longer acceptable.  All of the test results must be written on the Interstate Health Certificate.  Attached supporting test information should only be an “addition”.  The Interstate Health Certificate must be with the animal upon arrival at the sale.  An individual copy of the Tuberculosis test chart must be attached to the health chart as there are some states that require this form.

REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES:  Please send the registration certificate for the animal with your Interstate Health Certificate.  On the back of the registration certificate please list the accurate breeding date (if applicable) and service sire information.

PRODUCTION FORMS:  If your animal is milking, please send the most recent production form with your animal.  The buyer of your sale consignment needs this information in order to transfer the milk records into their herd.

PREPARATION OF CONSIGNMENTS:  Listed below are a few things that you need to take care of before sending your animal to the sale.

1. Trim the feet on your animal now, if needed.
2. Tie your animal up for a few days, break to lead and get her used to being fed and watered from a bucket.
3. Clip the animal’s head only.  The JMS crew will body clip and professionally prepare your animal.
4. A pregnancy check is recommended for animals bred over 35 days.  All animals will be examined prior to the sale by a Veterinarian in the presence of a JMS staff member.

ARRIVAL DATE:  JMS will be ready to accept your consignments starting at 8:00AM on May 25, 2016.  All consignments should be in place by noon on May 26, 2016

SPECIAL NOTE:  The JMS manager will have the authority to make special announcements and to make withdrawals from the sale.  The consignor will be advised prior to any action taken. 

TRUCKING:  If you need assistance with trucking your consignments to the sale, please contact JMS at least 3 weeks prior to the sale.

INJURY/DEATH:  Sale Management is not responsible for the injury or death of any sale consignment while at the sale or being trucked to the sale.  Any Veterinarian bills incurred at the sale for sick animals will be the owner’s responsibility.  JMS has discontinued offering Mortality Insurance. 

CATALOGS:  All consignors will receive a printed catalog.  All other printed catalogs will be mailed by request only.  Catalogs will be available at the sale.  Catalogs will be available for viewing and/or downloading on http://jms.usjersey.com.
