National Heifer Sale Health Letter
REQUIRED HEALTH TESTING FOR THE “VIRTUAL” NATIONAL HEIFER SALE
SATURDAY, JULY 2, 2016 – 1:30 PM (PDT)
As sale time approaches, we hope all is progressing well for your consignment to the 2016 National Heifer Sale in San Diego. Because the sale will be an all “virtual” event, health tests will need to be conducted slightly different than other national sales. Below is the pertinent information concerning health testing and videography for all consignments.
ALL ANIMALS NEED TO BE TESTED FOR THE FOLLOWING AFTER JUNE 8 BUT BEFORE JUNE 20 SO YOU CAN HAVE YOUR HEALTH RESULTS READY BY JUNE 24 FOR INCLUSION IN THIS YEAR’S SALE.
We will require an emailed or faxed copy of your health results by June 24, 2016. Please send to Erica Davis at email@example.com or 614-322-4482, Attn: Erica Davis. Animals with no health results submitted by the deadline will not sell. This letter will also be posted on our website at http://jms.usjersey.com for your convenience.
BRUCELLOSIS: notification of movement runs the risk of her test expiring and then needing another test as this test is only valid for 30 days. JMS HIGHLY RECOMMENDS THAT ALL HEIFERS WITHIN THE PROPER AGE RANGE FOR THEIR STATE BE CALFHOOD VACCINATED FOR BRUCELLOSIS. This will increase her marketability exponentially as several states can ONLY buy calfhood vaccinated cattle. Official calfhood vaccinates under 6 months of age as of sale day, need not be tested. All others must have a negative Brucellosis test conducted after notification on when the heifer will be picked up by the truck for movement to her new owner. Testing the heifer before notification of movement runs the risk of her test expiring and the need to have another test completed because this test is only valid for 30 days.
HEALTH CERTIFICATE: An individual health certificate is required for each animal. Please put animal’s tattoo or the herd management number from tamperproof American ID tag on health certificate, in addition to her USDA Official ID. The health certificate and a copy of the Tuberculosis test chart will not be necessary until you have been notified as to movement times and locations on the heifer so as not to have the paper expire and the cost of having another one re-written as papers are only valid for 30 days.
BRAND INSPECTION: Be sure that your animal has been brand inspected if required by your state – at the time of movement only.
REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES: Send the registration certificate with a signed transfer on the back side to the JMS office, attn.: Sally. Be sure to fill in accurate service information if applicable.
CATALOGS: All consignors will receive a printed catalog. There will be catalogs at the sale. Catalogs can be downloaded at http://jms.usjersey.com.
TRUCKING: The trucking of your animal to the new owner will be arranged as quickly as possible, but will also be at the mercy of truck availability in your area. JMS will be in contact with more information following the sale.

PICTURE AND VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS FOR NHS CONSIGNMENTS
Video Standards: We request that you have your animal fitted to National Heifer Sale standards, clean certainly and clipped is recommended. Please film in a clean, dry, well-lit area. We recommend filming your consignment NOT on the halter as many heifer look better walking naturally.
Video Quality: A video camera is recommended for filming your heifer, although smart phone videos have proven to be okay in quality. Please remember to hold your smart phone sideways when filming. Please try to record some of each side of the heifer as she is walking, and depending on her stage of development, a rear udder focus would be advantageous. Please film more than enough footage, and do not worry about the sound or editing. That will be handled in the office. A still photo of your consignment, a candid while doing the video or a picture taken by a professional photographer, will also work very well.
RAW VIDEO IS REQUIRED. Please do not send already produced video. Provide the raw video footage so that all the consignments can have the same format of video presented. NO “YOU TUBE” or similar links will be accepted.
Please have your video and/or still pictures to Erica Davis or your area representative by June 6, 2016 (or earlier). This allows time for editing and re-filming if needed. Please call Erica with any questions or for video advice at 614-361-9716. Most emails cannot handle videos due to the file size. When you talk to Erica, she will need your email address and will forward you a drop box folder link to place the video in.
